NASHVILLE, TN – July 28 2010 – Warner Music Nashville (WMN), the Nashville-based music operations of Warner Music Group Corp. (NYSE: WMG), today announced that Rod Riley has been named President and CEO of Word Entertainment, WMG’s Christian music division. In his new role, Riley will oversee Word’s entire operation, including A&R, sales and marketing, music publishing, distribution, church resources and artist services. Riley succeeds Mark Bright and will report directly to John Esposito, President and CEO of Warner Music Nashville. Bright, one of Nashville ’s most acclaimed producers, will continue to work with WMN under the terms of his existing production deal with Warner Bros. Nashville.

In making the announcement, Esposito said: “Mark has done an outstanding job as the head of Word, and it is a testament to the great depth of talent we have at WMN that allows us to not only continue our relationship with him under the terms of his existing production deal but also to not miss a beat by appointing Rod as the head of Word Entertainment. And while we are delighted to give Rod this well-deserved promotion, we are thrilled that we can make this change while also allowing Warner Music Nashville to continue its very valuable relationship with Mark. Riley has served as Chief Operating Officer of Word Entertainment since 2008, and has been responsible for all the business operations of Word Label Group, Word Music Publishing, Word Distribution and Word Music. Since joining Word Entertainment in 2005 as Senior Vice President of Marketing, he has been instrumental in revitalizing the company’s staff and artist roster, as well as aggressively expanding Word’s artist services business, including launching or acquiring businesses in merchandising, e-commerce, artist booking, touring, brand management and sponsorship.

Prior to joining Word, Riley served as Senior Director of Sales at Provident Music, Sony Music’s Christian music label. In 1999, while still with Sony, Riley and his wife, Susan, launched Fervent Records, a record label and music publishing company that is home to such acclaimed artists as BarlowGirl, Francesca Battistelli, Group 1 Crew, Sidewalk Prophets, pureNRG and Big Daddy Weave. Originally distributed through Sony, Riley sold Fervent to Word Entertainment in 2005.

Major Roberson was born to this world on June 11, 1925 in Gunnison , MS and went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 1, 2010, 11:00 PM at his home in Chicago , IL .

Major Roberson was not only a singer, but an accomplished songwriter having written several songs for the famed group. His most notable songs were “The Old Ship Of Zion”, “The Doors Of The Church Are Open”, “Church Song”, “Don’t Let Me Drift Away”, “Exit 100”, “He Brought Joy To My Soul”, “Me My God And I”, & “Testify For Jesus.”

Major Roberson is survived by his wife Hattie Roberson, several children, a host of grand children and great grand children.

In my opinion, Lil Blair is much too young and talented to spend his entire career as what may be perceived by some to be a gimmick or tribute band to his mentor, the late great

Robert Blair. I am excited that he has chosen to honor the Quartet legend and keep his legacy alive by taking everything he had learned from him and applying it to his own

unique ministry in which Robert Blair himself gave his blessings and passed the mantle to as his true apparent heir.

The award winning Mississippi Mass Choir will add yet another honor to their illustrious resume, when on January 16, 2010 they will receive the Thomas A. Dorsey Notable Achievement Award at the 25th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards. The award is named in honor of the “Father of Gospel Music,” Thomas A. Dorsey. It recognizes individuals doing outstanding work in the Gospel music community. They are just the second recipient to receive this award.

The Stellar Awards is the first and only Gospel Music Award Show in the country honoring Gospel music artist and industry professional for their contributions to the Gospel music industry.

It was at the 4th Annual Stellar Awards in 1989 that they made their national debut, receiving four awards – Choir of the Year, Artist of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Gospel Music Video.

For twenty one years, gospel fans have been touched by the awesome talent of the Mississippi Mass Choir. Some faces have changed, but the choir’s mission remains the same; “evangelizing the world in song.”

Reaching down to the root of this gospel powerhouse, one finds a very humble beginning. Frank Williams, founder of the group, began singing gospel music in churches as a child, spending his evenings immersed in the sounds and ways of the gospel under the guiding hand of his father, Leon. Frank performed with his siblings, the acclaimed Williams Brothers, and later joined his brother Huey Williams with the legendary Jackson Southernaires.

After many years of touring as an artist, Frank had a vision that the great and soulful voices of Mississippi needed to be captured in a choir. For nine years, this idea grew in his mind until he could contain it no longer. He approached his gospel-writing friend, David Curry, with his ambitions and the rest is history!

On October 29, 1988, Five months after their first rehearsal, the 150 voice aggregation recorded its first album and video. It can truly be said that they were an “overnight success. The album entitled “Mississippi Mass Choir Live” remained in the No. 1 slot atop the Billboard Magazine Top Gospel Charts” for 45 consecutive weeks – setting a record for a debut recording of any genre.
Their next three recordings “God Gets the Glory,” “It Remains to be Seen,” “Rev. James Moore Live with Mississippi Mass, and ”Rev. James Moore Live with Mississippi Mass at Jackson State University” all reached the No. 1 position. Their first album after the untimely passing of Frank Williams in 1993, “I’ll See You in the Rapture” reached the No. 2 slot on the Billboard Chart; second only to Kirk Franklin’s recording-setting release.
