Since the age of eight this gospel pioneer has been on the road and singing with the likes of Mahalia Jackson, James Cleveland, The Caravans before launching a solo career in 1964. 36+ years and some 41 albums later Dorothy Norwood makes a big impression winning a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best Gospel album of 2005. Her latest CD promises to be one of her best as it brings Lashun Pace, Evelyn Turrentine Agee and others to help her send the message that you can always Stand On The Word.

The title track is the most compelling and one of those tear jerkers as she starts with a story. You have to hear it. I don't want to spoil it for you but trust me it is worth hearing. 'Praise In The Temple' is an immediate favorite. 'In The Presence Of The Lord' is kind of nice, too. Didn't expect that contemporary feel. Go ahead now. Dorothy Norwood has done it again and she proves she is a staple in this ever-changing genre we call Traditional Gospel but this CD to me is just plain old CHURCH!
