An album radiating with the feel from the Golden Age of enlightened Hip-Hop, “As Iron Sharpens Iron” is something straight out of the era of A Tribe Called Quest and Arrested Development. Positive vibes emit throughout this piece, extended from the microphone to the turntables to the horn samples. These Colorado-based emcees perform with flair that is comparable to any big-city counterpart.

“As Iron Sharpens Iron” gets you open with a high-energy, head-bobbin introduction to each emcee’s skill and lyricism. Sharing their heart and love for God and Hip-Hop, the Procussions give the listener a sample of their lyrical and musical finesse, proving from the first note they can hang.

Following these intros, “Wegotta” and “Just Over Broke” take on the more thought-provoking subjects of purpose and materialism. With a simple beat and keyboard sample, the call to take control of one’s decisions and life is palpable in the track “Wegotta”. “Stand up/ Make a decision, ‘cus the only time left is now/ The time given it’s a matter of living or matter of looking for the truth/ And the power’s in you.” A good song will grab a listener in the first few seconds, opening the door to share a message for the remaining minutes. The Procussions master this task through pure musical talent, with elements of Jazz and Hip-Hop executed through talented instrumentation.

“Just Over Broke” addresses the silent financial crisis of overspending in America and the deception of their credit card. “Billions are being made at the expense of our ignorance/ Big banks do big biz financing the noose we choose to hang ourselves and teach our kids how to embrace the enslavement, Mastercard and Visa/ Modern-day plantations, cracking your back by stacking those minimum payments…We’re robbing ourselves, they make it look easy.” This unique perspective in Hip-Hop demonstrates the Procussion’s distinctive and relevant position in the Hip-Hop world of being a positive voice not only in the Christian music movement but to the entire art form.

Coupled with a crazy beat that draws the listener on the down and a hint of guitar strumming at the right moment, “Leave Her Alone” paints the picture of a young love-story, gone wrong. Describing a relationship that was doomed from the beginning, all men and women can relate to this track if they have ever pursued a romance when they knew they should have turned away before the first words were spoken.

The harmonious marriage of Jazz and Hip-Hop makes its home on The Procussion’s “As Iron Sharpens Iron”, proving that they not only have something to say but on top of it they can lay down a tight track to catch the attention of any avid Hip-Hop fan.
