When one thinks of Las Vegas, the thought of flashing lights, slot
machines ringing and 'Sin City' come to mind. In spite of all of those
things, the question is asked can anything good come out of Las Vegas.
I would like to let you know that there is a group of saved people known
as the Las Vegas Mass Choir that have banded together to cry out loud
that Jesus is the true star in Vegas. This 15 set offering has
something for every listener from straight forward behind-the-veil
worship to foot stomping shouting music.
The first cut 'Affirmation' lead by Min. James Smith, Carolyn McKay
Cyrus & Min. Harry Jessie sets the pace for all out worship. The choir
lets us know that we are affirmed through the blood of the lamb. The
blood medley on this song is comprised of 'There is a fountain filled
with blood', 'Just As I Am' and 'What Can Wash Away My Sins' will have
any blood-washed believer praising and blessing the God of their
salvation.
Hope Luster & Min. Harry Jessie throw down some serious jazzy lead
vocals on 'Come On In'. The saxophone is blazing and the cool drive
make this an easy song on the listeners ears and heart reminding us to
'lift Him up, higher'.
Next up is 'You Let Me Know' a worship song to Lord like none other I
have heard lead by John McConnell & Min. Harry Jessie. This beautiful
church ballad will be a favorite among church choirs all across this
country with it's repetitive yet meaningful lyrics...'You let me know
how much you care, for me Lord you are there.'
'I'm Blessed' begins with a beautiful piano and saxophone intro which is
so soothing to the soul and puts your mind in the place to be open to
receive what the writer has in store. Hope Luster & Min. James Smith
pair up this time as Hope's luscious voice is as sweet as a watermelon
on a hot summer day. As sweet as her voice is, she sings with such
power and conviction. The listener is reminded that we are blessed to
be here in the land of the living.
'Healer' lead by Min. Harry Jessie & Hope Luster team up again with the
choir to bring this beautiful ballad to life. The lyrics 'You Won't
Leave the Same' confirms the point that God can heal and deliver.
Right behind this comes the cut 'Do You Want to Be Healed' with it's
jazzy intro and hard hitting sax solo. The choir comes on strong on
this one asking the question how bad do you want your healing and then
answering it at the same time by saying, 'God's got enough healing...'
The dynamic duo of Min. Harry Jessie and Hope Luster come back to the
forefront on the cut 'Talk to God'. Their jazzy vocals are a beautiful
fit while encouraging us to simply talk to Him. For added foundation,
the writers of this song throw in their arrangement of the timeless hymn
'Take it to the Lord in Prayer' which fits in beautifully on this song.
'Talk to Me' brings in narration by Min. Michael Trammell and vocals
from Min. Rob Owens, Chris Walker and Hope Luster. This song is a song
of comfort for each listener as if God himself were singing this song
from His own voice to each one of us.
Carolyn McKoy Cyrus returns on the moving cut 'Who Touched Me'. Cyrus
sings first in the voice of the Master asking the question, then she
turns it around and speaks in the voice of the woman with the issue of
blood in response to Jesus. Finally the word comes back to the
woman....your sickness is gone away.
'Roof Tearer' the most creative song on this album deals with the story
of the man lowered down through the roof of the home that Jesus was in
so that he might be healed. Kenneth Small adds his stirring vocals to
this story as the intercessor on the man's behalf. You have to hear
this beautiful song of faith for yourself.
Next up is 'New Life' lead by the smooth, silky vocals of Aretha Harden.
Singing from the depths of her soul, she proclaims that 'I'm no longer
the same.' Any blood-washed believer will easily identify with the
writer of this song when the lyrics, 'No more bondage, no more chains'
ring through the moving chorus.
To add some flavor to this already diverse cd, Las Vegas Mass throws in
their own 'LVM - Christmas Medley' to the mix. As the choir along with
Min. James Smith & Min. Robert Owens revive the classic Christmas
favorites 'Silent Night' and 'O Come Let Us Adore Him'. With the
beautiful and peaceful pianos solo on these songs, the listener can
visualize chestnuts roasting on an open fire and snow falling while
loved ones are gathered around a warm fireplace thinking about the real
meaning of the holiday season.
Reprises of 'I'm Blessed' & 'Affirmation' along with the extended
version of 'I'm Blessed' round out this power packed offering from Las
Vegas Mass.
I give this 4 out of 5 stars.
