It's not everyday that you listen to a cd these days, and not have to
hit the repeat button constantly to try to hear the words of a song.
Reed's Temple Choir from Reed's Temple C.O.G.I.C. bring to mind the
clarity and enunciation of the Wilmington-Chester Mass Choir. Take it
from me, as a song leader, choir director and singer, I welcomed and
received every song on this moving and powerfully packed offering from
Reed's Temple. I had to keep reminding myself that this was a 'church
choir' and not a community choir, as the music, lyrics and power vocals
of the choir and soloists will make any choir out there stand up and
take notice.
The title cut 'Now is the Time' leads the way on this offering by Reed's
Temple. This Sunday friendly song will have church choirs across the
choir scurrying to learn this one. With lyrics from the scriptures like
'From the rising of the sun, till the setting of the same' every
pulpiteer will be on their feet in no time. The guitar solos and the
sopranos (who are singing like there is no tomorrow) make this song jump
right out of the cd into your heart.
'My Soul Cries Out' lead by Percy Gray has a repetitive, easy groove
that no listener can deny. The call and response from the choir along
with the wonderful key changes are used to drive home the events of what
happened to our Savior at Calvary.
If it's a worship song you're looking for, look no further than the song
'Fill this Place'. This is an easy addition to any worship team's Sunday
morning repertoire. When you have lyrics like 'Lord we love You, Lord
we Praise You' and you add orchestra strings to that mix, a true
worshipper has no other option but to bow down and worship Him.
Rodriguez Reed adds his vocals to 'He'll Make It Alright'. This
infamous church beat is a winner as the tenors lead out the choir
reminding the listener that any trial, tribulation, any situation, you
just call Him and He'll make it alright. Let your church choir sing
this on a Sunday morning and you will have Holy Ghost pandemonium from
the pulpit to the pew.
'Oh What He's Done For Me' makes you want to clap your hands and join in
with the choir in gratitude to the Lord. Key changes abound and the
choir's clear, crisp diction make it easy to teach this to your own
local group.
Brenda Harris leads on the cut 'Blessed'. Fans of the Mississippi &
Georgia Mass Choirs will be tapping their feet when they hear this one.
Be careful when singing this song around your Mother's and Deacon's
Boards of your local church. Reed's Temple cannot be held responsible
for the uncontrollable skipping, hand-clapping or shouting that will
break out from this churchy number.
The simple and moving piano solo lead the way on 'I Have A Friend in
Jesus' lead by Requita Skyes. Singing with such power and conviction,
Skyes and the choir take the emphasis off of the music and put all their
energies in encouraging the believer to focus on Jesus.
'If You Believe (all things are possible)' is lead by the beautiful
voice of Yolanda Bateman. This song has a beautiful groove and the
chorus is pumped with lyrics like 'Ask, believe, receive, it's yours'.
This will be a favorite at any church.
There is definitely something associated with singers named Micah. Case
in point, Micah Nelson adds his impressive and heartfelt vocals to the
song 'Show Them the Way'. The flow of this song is so easy and smooth
with the sopranos leading out the choir in the voice of Jesus
interceding to the Father on our behalf.
Just in case you thought there was nothing here for the young people,
Reed's Temple offers 'Everyday with Jesus'. This grooving number
complete with digitized vocal narration will have your young people
eager to learn this for their next Youth Sunday program. Kurtrina Grant
along with the choir take this song by force with their numerous key
changes driving home the point that everyday with Jesus is sweeter than
the day before.
Lastly, Jackie Reed adds her vocals to convicting cut 'Yes I'm Going'.
The songs speaks to the heart of every determined believer as the lyrics
'I'm going with Jesus all the way' and 'Don't you try to stop me' are
repeated over and over again.
I give this 5 out of 5 stars.
