The thing about propaganda—the spreading of ideas through media—is that the more you listen to it, the more it makes sense. After repeat exposure, it begins to sound better and better every time. The method behind propaganda’s success is that it inundates its subject until it starts to make sense.

This same idea applies to rapper Propaganda’s album “Out of Nowhere”, one of many contributions from the Tunnel Rats. The album starts off slow, and one sits back and ponders what Propaganda is trying to get at. What’s his point? Where is he going with this? It’s about this time that it begins to come together. With its slow but dynamic beat and a chorus fortified with vocals reminiscent of old spirituals, “Time and Place” goes hard and takes this piece with it. Propaganda pops his rhymes over a cracking beat, with the soulful vocals care of Kuliah.

If the listener is still hesitant to believe in Propaganda, “Ya Never Know (Played By the Game)” will persuade them. The sick beat on this track demands attention, with a smooth melody and a chorus that speaks warning after his experience getting played by a female fan.

Should music fans still doubt the Propaganda presented in “Out of Nowhere”, don’t stop listening. “Keep On Singin’” should convince them of the God-given talent featured on this album. Propaganda teams up with Dax from L.P.G, and a member of the Tunnel Rats family, for a smooth, R&B infused experience. The blend of the organ with a syncopated beat and rich vocals courtesy of Dax demonstrates the potential contained within Propaganda. The song tells the story of the wisdom Props has sought from wiser men. “God handles the junk/ You just live the word/ And trust me, your whole life story will be heard”.

Overall, Propaganda is convincing. With heavyweights like Macho from New Breed, Sharlok Poems of LA Symphony, and several others, there is a blend of several different flavors that provide a variety of sounds throughout the album.
