“Our music is fun and purposeful we know the obstacles and challenges young Christians face today. As ambassadors for Christ, our mission is to win souls for the Kingdom. The only difference is we do it with intense lyrics, hot tracks, and crazy beats!”
These are the words of Charles & Taylor, the new brother & sister group out from Integrity Music. Both have been singing gospel music since they were children. Now in their teens they deliver a great project aimed at young people.
Production for the album is handled by none other than Travon Potts, best known for writing and producing the number one song “Angel of Mine” for R&B singer Monica.
Deeply influenced in urban soundscapes, this project is definitely youth friendly and a welcome addition to an area void of young artists.
“I’m Not Ashamed” opens things up and is bold message of saying I believe in Jesus Christ and not ashamed of the God I serve.
The testimony track “I’m So Happy” is straight up R&B/hip-hop influenced and is a bangin’ track.
They even make what can seem like boring things for young people such a prayer interesting in “Still Gonna Pray.” The track is fun and light, but keeping things in perspective. The line talking about praying in good times or in bad, is a big encouragement. Pushing commitment to Christ in an acceptable way.
“I Worship You” is simple, but clearly brings the listener into worship to the Lord. Awesome. Definitely one of the best tracks on the CD.
They also cover a couple songs “You Are God Alone” and “Better Than Life” and put their spin on it to bring these popular songs to a younger audience.
Another good song is “Made To Worship You.” Nice and slow worship track.
Not to be critical here, but the album sort of leaves you lacking for more substance. Charles and Taylor have exceptional talent and have their ministry directed in the right path. But I’m not so sure it really brought out the full scope of who they are and what they have to say. To tell the truth I was expecting something like Bebe & Cece, but hearing their hip hop edge was a nice change of pace. But I still feel we have much more to hear from these young artists so stay tuned.
Overall teens and kids will love this CD, adults this might not be your flavor. But keep an open mind.
