It is no surprise that The Phanatik’s CD entitled “Incredible Walk” has earned a Stellar Gospel Award nomination for best Rap/hip hop Gospel CD of the year. Presented by Cross Movement Records, Phanatik is positioned as a GREAT rapper on this first solo project. This CD is HOT! The entire CD is Christ-centered with tight original tracks. Phanatik spits with passion, and much energy. His lyrical content consistently gives us a vision of the conflict between a sinful man verses the perfect nature of God. His album cover is clever, and it is reminiscent of the comic book hero The Incredible Hulk.

Most of Phanatik’s 18 songs offer hot beats. The song “Psych Check” was a favorite and it gave the listener sort of an old school feel. It demonstrated Phanatik’s talent in the art of songwriting especially how he switched up in his lyrical flow. In each verse of “Psych Check,” Phanatik rapped using a different style of spit: I thought of Grand Puba and Big Daddy Kane (pre-Ludicrous), Dana Dane, and many other rap greats forgotten. His Psych check made me think of the old days and his talent is versatile on this project. I really enjoyed the topic of mercy spoken of in the song “Shot Clock a.k.a. (Brand New Day).” You will not be disappointed with the Christian witness nor music on this project.

I highly recommend this CD for hip-hop lovers. Make this Phanatik CD an addition to your personal collection and a gift to someone who loves rap. Stay tuned for Jan 21, 2006 to find out who wins for this Stellar Gospel Award category.
