Young, driven, and raw are appropriate words to describe Holy Hip Hop artist MBK(My Brother’s Keeper). This talented brother, who is making noise out of Gastonia, NC, has been on the scene for a minute now and is definitely trying to make the world notice.
MBK (a.k.a. Greg Jackson) has released his self-titled CD, 10 tracks of bumpin’ spiritual content. Knockin’ beats and lyrical potency saturate the album. What I enjoy most about MBK’s style is his ability to tell stories of brokenness and pain, and yet flip it into positivity. He is unashamed of the gospel that he preaches through his music.
The CD kicks off with a blazing Intro that is accentuated by an infectious beat to nod to and MBK flows effortlessly on the track.
The tracks that stand out of the CD are God Is Coming, Love Your Life, Our Story, Our Pain, and School Days.
God Is Coming flips a Drumline sample as MBK proceeds to rip the track down.
Love Your Life is a bouncy, uplifting song with a nice hook.
Our Story, Our Pain poignantly discusses the anguish and plight of many young people today. The song offers hope to people who seem to be in hopeless situations.
School Days is a thought provoking song that will make every listener check themselves in the spirit and analyze how we are really living.
Overall, this CD project has all of the ingredients to be successful: good lyrics, good music and catchy hooks. I recommend this CD to anyone who like Holy Hip Hop music and is unafraid to lift the name of Jesus.
