On his first album, Israel Houghton introduced us into a ‘New Season’ of faith and spiritual prosperity. On his second album, he showed us what it was like to be ‘Real’ with God. And on his third album, he took us to ‘Another Level’ of worship. Alive in South Africa [Live] is his fourth album, and it is a clear indication that God is alive and still at work in the ministry of Israel & New Breed, who minister the gospel through the power of music across every nation.
The dual-disc project captures the realness of a live concert with Israel, New Breed and their band. Their anointing and energy can be felt right through from the opening “Alive Overture” to the slew of super-hit medleys at the end of the second disc. There are so many favorites, that I don’t know where to begin! “Alive” and “Favor of the Lord” opens the album with upbeat declarations for the believer, while “Take the Limits Off” and “It’s Raining” increases the faith and spiritual expectations of any listener. “Not Forgotten” is the hit of the entire album, even the radio bonus (on Disc Two) is enticing with its Caribbean-flavored beats, mixed with a Middle-Eastern melodic spice. The ultimate worship experience is felt through songs like “To Worship You I Live (Away)”, “ Worship Medley” and “Alpha and Omega”. After being ushered into the presence of worship, South African gospel artist Jonathan Butler appears as a special guest to remind us that the joy of the Lord is our strength in “Come and Let Us Sing”. Alive in South Africa with Israel & New Breed demonstrates that the Christian life is the best living experience one can ever have, and is a ‘must have’ in your collection.
