For the past four years, Duvall shows no signs of slowing down. And that’s for a reason, this midwestern band continues to please its fans. With it’s latest release Volume & Density, Duvall proves that they not only in it for the music, but they have a heart for Christ.
This desire can be seen from the opening lines of the first song, “All in Your Hands.” Lead singer, Josh Caterer sings “Don’t let your love be wasted on me, I’m no good at all”. At times, everyone feels this sense of failure or doubt. But Caterer quickly follows up with “Everything I’m hoping to be, is all in your hands.” This gives the audience a reassurance God’s in control. “Where I Belong”, is another example of great lyrics, arrangements, and vocals combine to create a world of hope and possibilities. The band doesn’t use the actual words of Jesus, Christ, or God in a lot of there songs. But it’s strongly implied in the message of the songs. And if not convinced, listen and you’ll see the power of God.
The heart of the album is the last song titled “Jesus Never Leaves Me.” A slow song in which the person deals with his own death or the death of loves one. It’s not a song of dreary or darkness but light for the simple chorus states, “Jesus never leaves me.” The great thing about this song is it can be applied to any difficult situation a person is in. For it’s true, Jesus never leaves.
After listening to the album a several times, Duvall has found them a new fan. The strength of the album lies in the song towards the end, and the ability of the lead singer to pierce the listener with his passion. This is an album definitely worth adding to your collection.
