Before getting started on this review let's get a couple of genres straight: there is Christian Hip-Hop and then there is Gospel Rap. 'My Testimony', by the artist Tint Man is definitely in the genre of Gospel Rap. For the most part, Christian Hip-Hop is great hip-hop music written by Christian artists that does not glorify an immoral lifestyle. With Christian Rap, you don't hear that much scripture or spiritual exhortation, but it definitely does not offend. 'My Testimony' by the artist Tint Man is a mixture of smooth rapping and too cool beats that are interspersed with the Gospel. You might be like me and listen to some Christian rap that is loaded with scripture and the beats are alright, and you really want to like it but, the delivery just comes across....corny. My attention was immediately captured by the first track 'Satisfied', where in this track, John 3:16 is quoted chapter and verse. I prepared myself for the usual let down, but I was pleasantly surprised by the tightly woven mixture of rap and skat like vocals throughout the song. The hook in Track 1-Satisfied,--'I'm satisfied/in Jesus' name/I'm born again/my life has changed', boldly proclaims the changing power of Jesus, and is still a very cool track. Track 3-My Testimony (title track), made my eyes water a little. Not saying I was about to cry or anything, but if you are like me, and the only reason you are still alive here on this earth today is because of the intercessory prayers of others, Tint Man's own powerful personal testimony will really move you. The rest of the tracks of the album are professionally mixed and produced with a somewhat slow Southern flavor. Tint Man throws in a few headbobbers along with an all instrumental sax led version of Track 2-Resurrection.
My overall rating for this album is a solid nine out of ten crosses. The only reason it does not receive 10 of 10 was there were a couple songs I skipped after hearing one time.
