Knowledge alone that Yolanda Adams has a new CD sends an electric jolt to fans who know they’d better hurry or the shelves will be empty. The fact is, Yolanda has created quite a name for herself, not just in the Gospel music industry, but in communities across the country, on television and more recently on the big screen. So, how does she do it? When you hear her latest release you’ll discern she does it, “Day By Day.” This phraseology seems to exemplify how she has lived her life. She’s been undaunted by life’s obstacles and selflessly continues to press onward and upward. Her fuel is an insatiable desire to spread the wound-soothing love of God to hurting people across the globe. Yolanda encourages listeners in a unique way with a fresh project that leaves no stone unturned. This former schoolteacher may have left the classroom, but she’s yet instructing every pupil who will listen by strategically targeting issues that plague the lives of all.
She opens with a bouncy rendition, boasting of having the “Victory” ‘– the sweet, sweet victory’ that is. Listeners will identify as she recounts difficult moments in her life but credits God for carrying her through it all. Another great song teaches all to avoid the procrastinate urge to bottle up feelings when going through tough times. Its timely title is, “Tonight.” The project is flowing with several soothing urban grooves to gently cradle the ear while lifting the heart such as “Someone’s Watching Over You,” “Better Than Gold,” “Show Me” and the fantastic title track, “Day By Day.” Donnie McClurkin and Mary Mary tag-team with Yolanda for the toe-tapping “Lift Him Up” produced by industry legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis whose production is always tight. There’s more from Jam and Lewis on this project. Maestro Kirk Franklin also makes his presence known. Track number eleven’s rhythm seems perfectly matched to the message in the melody “I’m Grateful” which refocuses those who perhaps feel they’ve nothing for which to be thankful. “Be Blessed” is a sermonic masterpiece possessing the ability to break yokes of depression through true music ministry. And finally, for the fans who love Yolanda’s ability to belt out a ballad like none other, “This Too Shall Pass.”
This is Yolanda’s first release with Atlantic Records. Ironically, it’s the first time in almost a decade that she’s not on the CD cover. Instead, there’s a vacant seat sending a strong nonverbal invitation for the masses to sit down… take a listen… and day by day, let the healing begin.
