There are times when, in the blinded midst of our darkest despair, we gain full insight and perfect vision. It is during these times that our measure of faith can become the benchmark of our blessing. Such is the testimony of Kate Miner. In 2004, she underwent surgery to have polyps removed from her vocal cords, a procedure that could have stolen her ability to ever sing again. With her faith unshaken, Miner never worried about that possibility.

In the aftermath of the surgery, Miner began to analyze her relationship with God and came to the realization that she began believing that she needed to work for God's love and attention. During her self-assessment, Miner came to the conclusion that, at some point, she overlooked her need to sit with God and His desire to sit with her. Being in utter and total silence for an entire week after the surgery, and needing months before her voice could mend, Miner wrote most of her CD, Prodigal Martha, in the midst of the silence.

Prodigal Martha marks a return to the quiet time at the feet of Jesus for Miner. The CD, which was produced by her talented husband David Miner, is a compilation of 11 tracks that highlight relationship building, quality time with the Father. Miner, exhibiting a penchant for writing beautiful, heart opening songs, wrote and co-wrote the entire CD. Prodigal Martha, Miner’s debut release on Floodgate Records, is strong from start to finish.

The songs that most caught my attention were the title track, Prodigal Martha, Covered, Hung The Moon, The Cross, and Overwhelmed.

Kate Miner has hit a home run with this project. If you like songs of worship that cultivate a loving relationship with God, I recommend Prodigal Martha as a CD to add to your collection.
