ATLANTA, GA (June 12, 2006) Jonathon Prince, who last year became an American hero with his amazing cross-country run to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims, will set off on Run 4 Relief II, a new journey from Atlanta to New York to New Orleans. Prince says, 'The anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is fast approaching and with the prediction of one of the worst Hurricane seasons upon us, I am launching part two of Run 4 Relief to continue generating financial support for Hurricane Katrina victims, who have fallen by the wayside in the news, but still need major support . With the contributions of Run 4 Relief supporters, hopefully we can help replenish the spirits of our fellow Americans in need, by showing someone cares and hasn't forgotten .'
Prince, a 25-year-old community leader and philanthropist, known as the 'Black Forrest Gump', will complete his 2,000-mile run in just over two months, concluding on or near September 30th.
Earlier this year, Run 4 Relief exceeded the financial goal of raising $14,000.00 , which was donated to Habitat for Humanity and earmarked specifically for Hurricane Katrina relief. Now Run 4 Relief II aims to build on its initial success by raising $100,000.00. Proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity and Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network, which also donates partial proceeds to Habitat for Humanity.
Individuals wishing to make a donation to Run 4 Relief II can do so by visiting www.Run4Relief.org. 'It's not over', says Prince, 'there is still so much more to be done, and because things happen so fast in the media, you rarely hear about Katrina anymore, but people are still suffering, so I encourage people to donate as much as they can and if anyone wants to join me on the run, I welcome the company. '
Prince is setting off on his journey with little more than the shirt on his back. He will be pushing a jogging stroller to keep essential items such as water, toiletries, and changes of clothes. Some businesses have stepped forward to help Prince with the expense of completing his run. Noritz, the No. 1 manufacturer of tankless water heaters in the U.S. and a company that has worked with Habitat for Humanity in the past with those affected by natural disaster, will be the leading sponsor of Run4Relief II. 'We are extremely honored to help Jonathon achieve his goal, said Yoshi Asano, Marketing Manager North America. 'What he is doing is simply one of the most compelling and noble things I've ever seen in my entire life'.
