You have to love The Last Kind. The group's LP embellishes the liveliest era of hip hop, with "no jacket required", and an array of styles, flows, and topics. In chatting with them, you also realize how deep rooted they are, and true to the art. The true essence of the group is the fact that each emcee can provide a different shade, but in reality, they are all rhyming about the same color. This soulful ability makes The Last Kind as unique a group as any. With all these credentials, listen to what they had to say, and check the history.

    1) It sounds like there's several dialects and styles in your crew. Are some members from East, and some from West? What's the origin like?

You're absolutely right! Half of the group is from the east coast{ New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island} and the other half of the group is from the west coast{ Los Angeles}. Basically the origin of the Last Kind is we met out here in California and the main reason for coming together as a unit was liking the same style of music when it comes to hip hop! when all of us was spitting our lyrics it all sounded similar, but from a different standpoint. A west coast standpoint and a East coast standpoint. We all basically grew up listening to east coast hip hop, that's why people might say we sound east coast or have a East coast sound!

    2) If you check my review...I placed your style alongside the early 90's "Golden Era" of Hip Hop. Am I right in this inference, or what?

Once again Jackpot! If you were to catch us in a conversation, we're most likely talking about the golden era of hip hop! We just feel that hip hop was at it's pinnacle between the time of 87-91. The music that was coming out at that time was so refreshing and new. It was always creative and it kept you very excited and always wanting more. That's what the Last Kind is trying to bring back to hip hop! Creativity and excitement! Keeping you on the edge of your seat!

    3) Stray Records is working with several groups. Most notably yourselves, and Tha Slumplordz. This label seems to be blowing. Care to comment on your in-print?

So far so good! From the beginning Stray records saw our vision about where we want to go with the album "Revelations". I think when they heard the album themselves, they felt the same way as you did, as far as bringing back that golden era hip hop vibe back to the game!

    4) On various tracks you mention love, sex, and women. With Valentine's Day around the way, I'd appreciate if you'd tell us your true feeling on females, and love in general?.

We love females! Women are the most beautiful creatures on this planet at least some of them are! When we spoke about situations with women on the album, We can't lie some of it was fantasy cats may have in the group, some of it was situations we have gone through with women and some of it was exposing some of the sneaky shit they do! Remember it all started with Adam and eve! Love is a very deep word. We think people in today's society use the word very carelessly and don't really understand the true meaning behind it and what it stands for!

    5) With all groups, I'm curious as to find out how you decide who's on what tracks?

That's not difficult at all! It may be a combination of things such as whose feeling what, who can speak on a specific topic better than the next man or just simply vibing off a track!

    6) I'd like to hear some of you're favorite LP's, or better, tracks of all-time?

Some of our favorite tracks an LP's of all time are BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS criminal minded, LONG LIVE THE KANE first album, Marley marl in control, Mc shan, Eric B and Rakim, Biz markie, Just Ice, There are so many that we can't name them all!

    7) Although elements of your sound is very Western, is it hard to get emcee respect with your Eastern vocal styles?

Not really! I think when we do our thing, whether it's on stage or in the studio, we spit our lyrics and we're just representing hip hop! We're not representing east coast hip hop or west coast hip hop, just hip hop as a whole. Universally!

    8) Where do you see The Last Kind in five years?

We definitely see ourselves more universal when it comes to songs and topics and we definitely see ourselves more international as well. Sky's the limit! Nowhere to go but up!

    9) There are more and more multi-racial groups blowing up in Hip Hop. From Dilated Peoples, to Company Flow, to Arsonists, do you think that there's any added obstacles to that fact?, or is it just straight irrelevant as it should be?

It's irrelevant and it should be! To reiterate hip hop is universal! It's felt all over the world and embrace by many different races and culture!

    10) What's the first single off of the LP, and why?

The first single off the LP is "Like Datt" ! We just felt that it would be a great introduction for the group! If you haven't picked up the album as of yet, you don't know what you're missing! Hip Hop in it's purest and raw form!

    11) It's been a pleasure fellas. You have a great LP, and something to be proud of. I wish you the best, is there anything you'd like to plug, or say before we bounce?

Thanks alot for your time! We appreciate the love! Just to all the people pick up the album ''Revelations" in stores now off of Stray Records, 14 banging hip hop joints that we're sure you will love! It's definitely an album you can place into your golden era hip hop category! Lookout for us in 2001! Peace!

    Thank you much, Peace/Respect/One~
