Legendary gospel, producer, song write, vocalist, arranger, and man of God, Andrae Crouch comes back to us with a mighty album entitled Mighty Wind. His sister Sandra Crouch gave the introduction and stated “You’re in for a treat”. That statement was tight on point as listeners will be filled with blessing after blessing with each song on this abum. Mighty Wind gives you a full plate of gospel sounds. The production and musical arrangement isn’t targeted towards the old, young, contemporary ort traditional gospel listeners but everyone. Listeners will be blessed with a great variety of gospel sounds.
‘I Was Glad’ opens the album up with a fast paced energetic rhythm as the choir belts “I don’t want to be late” as they are entering the House of the Lord. The reprise goes on to tell of the many great gifts of healing, forgiveness, salvation and many more blessings the Lord has waiting for you if you just trust Him.
Andrae Crouch has been blessed with years of gospel albums and hits. The great singers and musicians that shine throughout the album show his love for God’s music. The simple chorus gives so much meaning to the song “All Because of Jesus”. Marvin Winans lends his tenor vocals to lets listeners know that we are all here because of Jesus’ mercy. Andrae worked with music arranger Alberto Salis to add some Latin-jazz flavor to the album on ‘Jesus is Lord’. Guest vocalist Karen Clark-Sheard adds the right ingredients to bring this song to a higher level.
Fred Hammond and the horn section of the band get a good workout as they belt out honor to God on the contemporary sounds of ‘O Give Thanks’. Gospel songbird Crystal Lewis gives a beautiful theatrical performance lifting the name of God higher and higher on the spirit moving ‘We Give You Glory’. The smooth production and vocals of Marcus Cole give a message to those that are lost in the world and seeking guidance.
Andrea and lead vocalists Lauren Evans give a praise-worthy version of ‘I Will Bless The Lord’. The choir then goes to Africa the moves up through history to a deep southern style of chant on ‘Bless the Lord’. The album slows down with the peaceful and heart warming ‘Holy’. A heavier splash of Spanish flavor is added later on the album with Thank You for Everything’. Jazz great Gerald Albright brings his skills to the horns section while Alberto Salis adds his percussion arrangement to make this an excellent track. Daniel Johnson and Ingrid Rosario give us English and Spanish interpretations in order for all to praise and worship the Lord. Lauren Evans does her thing again with a soulful radio friendly ‘Yes Lord’. Last but not least is the title track which brings the album to a close. Crouch, Tachina Daniels and Howard Smith sooth the ear and touch the heart of the listener on ‘Mighty Wind’.
Andrae Crouch proves that God blesses those who follow Him faithfully. Mighty Wind is a complete album. It’s filled with songs, filled with guests, and most importantly filled with the Holy Spirit and word of the Lord.
